Access Kampala City Kampala city can easily be accessed by air for the international delegates or by road transport for the regional delegates. By Air: Through Entebbe International Airport, 40km away from the City center. Several local and international airlines currently provide regular scheduled flight services between Uganda and Europe, Middle East and other African countries and within Uganda. Major International Airlines operating at Entebbe International Airport are British Airways, Kenya Airways, Emirates, Brussels Airlines, SN Brussels, Tanzanian airways, Ethiopian Airlines and East Africa Airways. ![]() Airport taxis provide a direct, fixed-rate service to Kampala for approximately US$25. Shuttle buses operate a service to the major hotels. Small commuter buses identified by a blue square or band, are cheap and run between the airport and Entebbe (4km), and Entebbe and Kampala (approximately one hour). Public payphones are located in departures and arrivals, and cellular telephone services are also available. There are 24-hour banks and bureaux de change at both departure and arrivals halls. Local car rental companies operate at the airport. On arrival, customs and immigration officials are polite and efficient, and a visa - for those who require one - can be purchased on the spot at Entebbe International Airport or at any overland border. Foreign exchange and ATM facilities are available at the airport, which is also serviced by several shops and restaurants. By Road: A network of modern tarred roads feeds the City' from different border posts, and other towns. The country is land-locked and borders the Sudan to the north, the Democratic Republic of Congo to the west, Kenya to the east, and Tanzania and Rwanda to the south. There are connections with all neighboring countries, although borders are not always open. However, travelers should take local advice before crossing the border with Rwanda, and should not attempt to cross the border with the Democratic Republic of Congo. There is a daily bus service between Kampala and Nairobi, Arusha and Dar-es-Salaam. Hotels and other accomodations Kampala has an excellent range of hotels in or close to the city center – from the luxurious international Serena and Sheraton to more basic but clean rest houses and serviced apartments. There are many restaurants serving the cuisine of, among others, Japan, India, China, the USA and South Africa, while delicious Ugandan food is served in many places in the city. A sufficient number of hotel rooms and other accommodation are available in Kampala City and its surrounding area in order to satisfy the anticipated demand. Accommodation is located at most 30 km from the proposed Congress Center. There is a wide variety of accommodation across the different target groups that will attend the 2010 Congress.
